Hey yall! Wish my first post was something more cheerful but here we are. Got gifted 6 chicks that seem around 2 weeks old. Saw this little one have a small growth a couple days ago but wasn’t worried. Today i noticed another small bump developing and the beak area is swollen! What do i do? What can i do? First time owning chicks!

If you can get a look inside the chicks beak, it might be helpful as well. See if the inside of the upper beak and choanal slit look normal. If it's pox, the spots will slowly darken and scab over, and then fall off, over a few weeks. If there are any lesions, plaques, gunk inside the beak that could indicate the more severe form of fowl pox. If they do not scab, darken, and fall off, then they may be papilloma's (warts) which have a viral cause. The one near the eye, looks different than pox to me, maybe the angle of the picture, but that is what made me think papilloma. They are not contagious to humans, so no worries about that. Most of the time they are left alone, but if they are causing a problem they can sometimes be removed and cauterized, though that would require vet advice and care.

It looks like fowl pox a virus spread by mosquitoes that lasts 2-3 weeks. Can you put them somewhere away from mosquitoes? Scabs can get large and even near eyes and nostrils affecting seeing and breathing. Here is a thread with more pictures of pox:

I could try to find a spot but that might be difficult because it’s around that time where mosquitos are here all the time! Also is this contagious to my other chicks?
