I have a baby chick that is shaking. His head shakes (almost like a nerve disorder) and he walks close to the ground. As soon as he stops walking, he sits down. I was told by a friend that it IS a nerve disorder & that he won't last long. Anyone have any idea what this could be, & if he'll make it?

I have one that is doing the same thing. She is now almost 8 weeks old. I ordered 33 chicks from Ideal and 4 of them got that way after they were about a week old. I lost one, 2 of them came out of it and are ok, and the third is still the same. The 3 that are left have stunted growth. I have tried all I know to do. I hope some of the more knowledgeble BYC users can help us.:

Are they too cold. They need to start out at about 95 degrees. and drop 5 degrees a week untill they are feathered out. Good luck, My chicks from ideal are about a week old and doing well.

It's not the weather, and it's not vitamins. I bought these chicks off a lady, and she shows chickens. I really think I should put the little guy down. Someone else suggested I try dewormer and see if that helps. I'm also thinking of adding antibiotics to the water. Guess we'll see...

Some neurological disorders can be treated with Hypericum. I have the dosage on my website (linked below) Poultry health > supportive therapy > half way down the page. If you try it, give the chick just 1 or 2 drops, no more.

I had a Polish that had a bizarre neurological disorder. They Hypericum really helped him. Good luck!

I had a mixed color vaulted silkie chick that i hatched last sept. she would have times where she would like tick her head back and forth. (her names Ticky now, lol), anyway, im guessing she bumped her head when she was little and it caused some damage. she is now almost 6 months old, still has the tick, and is a happy healthy chicken.
