Are pine shavings safe for baby chicks?

Sure, the larger flakes are better than the super small ones because of dust...however, I personally prefer pine pellets (horse stall pellets).

I believe they are; I used the basic flakes (not the premium, I don't think) from Tractor Supply CO for my 14 chickens and they're all growing well with no problems. Some of mine are almost 4 months old, and the rest of mine are about 5-6 months old. I think it's Cedar they can't be on.

When I'm raising Chicks without momma Hen I use sand in my brooder...When being raised by Momma I use pine shavings...

Shavings are fine. IMO, if you give your chicks access to grit to satisfy their natural instinct to supply their gizzards, they are less likely to eat shavings.

Perfectly fine, ignore the cantaloupe chunk it was late and I almost dropped some fruit on them.
