baby chicks crushed in nest

For whatever reason hens have now hatched and then crushed baby chicks

?? It happened with BCM and now with banty hen.Never seen this before and ideas would be good??

I would probably remove the chicks when they hatch and raise them yourself, if you still have any left I would just build a brooder (if you dont already have one) and raise them yourself too... to prevent further accidents...

That is what I'll do I just felt so sorry for one hen she has sat on eggs for a combined 47 days

.Two different sets and finally got a couple of chicks!!

Are there multiple hens setting in the same nest? Although several hens can successfully brood together, frequently in the jostling aroound and stealing of eggs they can crush chicks as they hatch.

The BCM is the one who has sat forever.She finally hatched one chick 3days later he was crushed ?? Meantime a banty started
sitting half way threw her time the BCM joined her since her chick was gone.not same box but the empty box next door.enter another banty hen who joins the first. Then they trade places with BCM and sit on her empty nest and she sits on their eggs!!!?????? Finally the banty eggs start to hatch under the BCM. But one more baby is crushed and another just vanishes. This has been a weird year.

Thank you it does for sure I feel so sorry for the hens they invested so much time hoping for babies.Wish I knew what has gone wrong this never had this before !!
