We got 12 baby chicks, After about a week found one dead in coop when I came home from work a week ago. I was concerned about it heading out as it was huddling under light.

Today hubby came home and found another one dead, again this am as I was running out was huddling under light but when I came out it came running out (or at least I believe same one)

Now tonight dh went to put them away before bad storm and found one huddling in corner. Brought in to house, tried giving water and food and no interest. Crop doesn't feel like it has any food in it. Won't do anything.

What can I do and why dying?

When we went to pick up originally 3 weeks ago, they were delayed being delivered. BTW the ones are dying are all cornish cross. Also have 2 - barred rock and buff orpington in house, very active & no probs so far. Housed together for first 2 weeks.

Did you check them for pasty butt? And the heat lamp keeps them appropriately warm? Hmmm, it'd be pretty late in the game for them to be starving or dehydrating- have you seen every chick going to the feeders and waterers?

No problem with pasty butt.

The one we brought in is eating and drinking good, but unable to stand or walk. What can cause a chicken to quit walking. What options. DH wants to cull.

All the rest of the chickens I see are eating and drinking as were the ones that died at least right up until the day they died.

if they're huddling under the light, they're trying to warm up........ lower your light..... they'll move away from it when they get warm enough..... they know better than us on temp.....

Thank you for answering.. I know this was an old thread.. No heat lamp.. the mama is still mainly sitting on them. We are keeping them in the coop during the day now (suggested by a man at a local Southern States) to see if this will help the chicks stay healthy. I'll cross my fingers
