My husband made a cardboard lining for inside a playpen and our almost 3 week old chicks are ripping it up, playing "keep away", and possibly eating it (?). It was sprayed with a finish. Should I rescue them or just relax and enjoy the show?

Yeah, probably should take it away from them. It can cause crop problems...

Mine always peck at the box and get into the weak areas. I would relocate if it is coated with anything

If its coated..I would take it out...But as for them playing with the cardboard if it was plain and clean...I don't feel its that big of deal...mine's been in cardboard brooder since day one...and they have been little by little ripping and shredding and playing with it since day one...basically same as newspaper and plant fiber...I would watch their crops for few days..but like i said if coated with something take it out...
