I have just integrated my two sets of chickens and of course there's some pecking and chasing going on but my baby birds, well 14 week old birds, haven't had much experience witht the roost so I have been placing them on it in the coop. My question is should I place them on the one with the older birds or not. I don't want to have them push the new ones off especially since they aren't that familiar with it. I am very new at this so any info would be wonderful.

Here's all mine roosting together. The little ones figured it out all on their own, just be patient and give them time. I started this batch with a little tiny roost in the outdoor brooder when they were 4 weeks old.

I usually check on them all around dusk and right before bed. If I see anyone bullying, I go off and give the bully a gentle flick on the beak to remind them who the top chick is.

They are 8 weeks old, 4 months old, 6 months old and over 1 year in ages.

(I'm so embarassed by the pink primer, now you know why I hate pink!)

Why don`t you just let nature take it`s course? They will eventually start roosting on their own and the older birds will never stop giving the youngsters a hard time. However, they will make their own way and have a more or less peacefull existance as the youngsters mature. Don`t stress yourself out about it. Chickens have been dealing with all this for centuries. Relax and enjoy them. As long as there is no blood lost, all is well.......Pop
