So i was up in my hay loft when i herd a little peeping and on a cold nest was a little wet chick still in the egg. i pick the poor thing up and put it under a heat lamp so it could warm up. Later that day i went to go look and see who the mom was but I saw no hen on the nest and all my chickens were up there sleeping. I found two more chicks in the back without a mom they are all eating and drinking but I want them to learn to be chickens and scavenge in stuff i brought them out side and they peeped and tried to run away so I just picked them up and brought them back under the heat lamp. HELP!!! Anyone have tips on what to do?

You appear to have the instinct for this "chick-mom" thing! I'd say keep on with the great job you're already doing!

When the time comes to integrate the little ones into the flock, we can give you tips, but for now, do what you've been doing. A bit of chick starter is all they are going to need right now.

In a few weeks we can talk about teaching them to be chickens.

Hay in a mow can provide enough heat in summer to actually hatch eggs; I have had this happen one time and I would think it rather rare as eggs have to be kept at a certain temperature range for three weeks. Check again to see if there is a hen on that nest as it's possible you looked just when the hen was elsewhere. Keep the chicks under the heat lamp until they are bigger and feathered. Instinct will take care of the rest.
