Hi all when i put the heat lamp on my babys chicks thay put there head down and stay like that for a long time how hi do i need to put the head lamp up but it do like it with it off so what do i do help

The box they are in needs to be big enough so they can get under the heat lamp to warm up, and then move away from it to cool down.
 
They are probably oveheating make a bigger area so the can get away from the ligt also make sure they have plenty of water.

Judge it base on the chicks!! If they are huddled together its to far away! If they are spreading out and acting like you are describing then its to close. They should have a " normal" social distance and not huddle nor spread to far away. If I were you id move the light way away for a bit and get them plenty of fresh water. Also as they age move the light higher to decrease the temp by around 5 degrees per week.
