Baby chicks

So i dont know what grit to buy? I called agway and they said they have grit with probiotics. Is that what i should get? :)

I ended up buying the probiotic grit. I figure for now I'll use this to help give a jump start and then after this is gone I'll use sand :)

the probiotic grit.
Curious just what is this stuff?

I bought about a 2 gallon bag of granite grit from the local mill, they put it in their chicken scratch. Ran it thru a colander with 1/16" holes. Bagged the smaller stuff for the chicks and sprinkle some over a chunk of sod in the brooder during the second week.

Don't give to much of anything other than chick starter,
they'll be healthier even if you may be more bored.

I searched for chick grit with probiotics and I think the only brand is Manna Pro. Which is alright but way overpriced. I just bought a 10 lb bag of chick starter grit at my local feed mill for $4.99. If you have the patience, you can buy the layer grit and sift out the smaller pieces for the chicks. Grit should be fed freely in a separate dish at all times. I sprinkle it on their food once or twice, until they understand what it's for. They will gorge on it when first introduced, as they fill up the gizzard, and then after that, you'll only see them eat it as needed. The sooner they start on grit, the stronger their gizzards will be.
