My chicks are about 4 weeks old. Still on starter food. Do they need grit at this age?

If just eating starter, no. But.... it never hurts either.
Dig them up a chunk of sod to play with. That’ll get them started. My broody marches all her chicks to the gravel driveway daily for theirs.

If they are eating things aside from their food, then yes, they need grit. (@MarkJr -now I have this image in my head of just a marching procession down to the driveway and just chaotically pecking the gravel XD)
