Okay so my hen just layed an egg and she doesn't no how to lay on it so I brought it inside and I got an heat lamp and a brand new sponge and I damped it in water than I put my egg on it under the heat lamp I'm just wondering if I am doing it right

Welcome to BYC. What breed of chicken do you have ? Some will not set, and none will set until they build a full clutch. It will be very difficult to successfully an egg under the system you have described.

Unfortunately, without a fertilized egg/rooster, a chick won't hatch out of the egg.

You need a rooster for fertile eggs and either a broody hen to hatch then or a properly set up incubator.
