We have two baby chicks and 7 somewhat older chicks. The lady at the store said that we need to keep a heat lamp on them at night...(We live in Nebraska)... She also said that the babies can't be with the older ones yet.... we only have one heat lamp... and a small pen that we bought from Orschlen's. Please help me figure out what to do to keep my chicks healthy and comfortable.

Um... Well the two aren't any bigger pudding cup, the others are a little bigger than a normal sized pop can.... I have no clue how old they are....

I personally wouldn't mix such a differences in ages when the youngest ones are that little. They might get picked on by the bigger birds. Best bet is to get another light if the older chicks don't have enough feathers to be without one yet.

the newest babies need heat during the day too - if you don't have extra room you can try to make a divider out of an oven tray or a piece of chicken wire, something to keep the babies separate but still allow room under the lamp.

Do you think they still need one even though it gets to be over the 90's during the day?
