Okay I could almost consider changing my no small caged animals rule. They are very cute.

How big are they as adults?? Gerbil/hampster size??

As adults they a bigger than a hamster but smaller than a guinea pig. They are very hyper and don't sit still for anything. What's interesting is that they have a unique sleep schedule when compared to other animals. They sleep in 15 minute spurts though out the day. So they are awake for most of the day and night, instead of being nocturnal like other rodents. They are pretty vocal as well. They make noises from a sort of barking to all sorts of squeaks and growls. Both the mom and dad help take care of the babies unlike mostly all other rodents. They can enjoy being pet if they are used to you and will enjoy riding around on your shoulder for a while. They however cannot have any sugar in their diets as they are diabetic at birth. They really do make great pets.
