We have a baby duck we found in the middle of a road zipping in circles. It was fine on day one, but then jumped out of a friends hands and fell. Seemed fine after that too but this morning was sleeping on her back and now is only drinking a bit and sleeping a lot. We are giving it a bit of sugar water and trying to coax it with mashed peas. Any ideas?

How far did it fall ? could have injured it's neck or head or even have internal injuries. Then again it may just be stunned and feel better soon, are you keeping it warm/ make sure temps aren't over 85* over heating is bad for them too. Poultry vitamins are actually better for it than sugar water especially if it isn't eating sugar can cause hypoglycemia which is extremely dangerous. Hatcheries only recc sugar water when first getting ducklings home after being shipped. you can take a hand towel and shape it like a donut and place duckling down into it just to keep it upright while it's recovering. also a nice cuddly stuffed animal will help too. offer vit water often but never put down their throats it can go into their air sacs and cause Pneumonia. Please keep us updated on lil one. [dribble water along edge of bill or gently put bill into water. ]

He didn't make it. The fall seems to have been symptomatic rather than the cause of the problem. this morning he stopped eating, drinking and peeping. Shortly after he started aching his head back over into a C, then he fell asleep and passed. Seems to be classic Duck Hep. Probobly why he was seperated from the flock in the first place. That is always a risk with a rescue from the wild. We tried our best.
