I have two great baby ducks, one is a rouen named Virgil and the other is a Pekin named Daisey. They are a week old. I hatched the Rouen and purchased the Pekin (for a buddy for Virgil) from a local breeder. My question is this: my local breeder told me to use large pine wood chips for bedding. I know not to use cedar chips. They are eating the pine chips, is that bad for them? Should I somehow prevent them to eating it and how? Thanks for all your help in advance.

what food do you have out for them, im no expert but perhaps take out the pine that they are eating just until they recognise what they should be eating, good luck they are so lovely at that age

At one week of age, when they are first introduced to shavings, they will sample them, but soon stop. Keep their food in front of them full time when you introduce shavings.

I've never had a duckling harmed by it. They are babies and everything goes into their mouth to taste when they are young.
