Hi all - We had a Cayuga hen go broody (is it broody for ducks?) and decided to let her sit on the nest. We've had chickens do the same but they always get bored after a couple of weeks. Anyhow, woke up yesterday morning to a duckling! We've brooded ducks ourselves, but haven't had any raised"naturally" by the mama. What do we need to do? Will the hen take care of feeding? Provide chick starter? I assume they need to be separated, but she's still sitting on about 8 eggs in the coop so I'm hesitant to move them. Any advice is much appreciated!

If you can some how block her off till they hatch and then you can move her..:)...Sometimes other Ducks will kill the babies..:(...Other times it works out great....

Congrats and best wishes....:)...I will be dealing with the same around Mothers Day...;).....

Cheers!

Thanks! We'll try to figure out a way to separate her, not the easiest with where she has the nest right now. I don't think the rest of the chickens/ducks have noticed the little guy yet
