I have yet to see this baby duck eat or drink and it did chirp the first day but it appears to sleep alot. It does not stand up on its own. The sack that it had attached to it is now nearly gone. I am concerned.

How many days old does it have to be to start eating. So far I have given it some water with success.

x2 what quackerjack said. Id suggest on day 3 to dip its bill in the food and water a few times so it knows what it is.

Okay thank you very much. I have just been very concerned because this duck has been weak from the begining. I have dipped it into the water and it did successfully drink a few times however it seems to be sleeping mostly. The first day it was chirping alot but now is sleeping it off.

Thanks for the warm welcome

Well...really.. it will either come out of it or not. If you wanted to supplement with some sav-a-chic, or my personal favorite Milk. Heck, even sugar water. Might give it a boost. I recently had one hatch with the yolk sac not absorbed and it didn't make it. Acted a lot like yours just laying there and weak. The next week I hatched one - same thing.. and it was fine. So it's kinda 50/50.

^ All that is my opinion. lol

I'd keep giving it sips though.

Update
I found the duckling this morning and it had died. Even though I did happen to give it the sugar water. I was very sad about this. I think I might be getting to close to my birds or something.

They were bought with the intention of putting meat in the house and now I can not think of doing that at all.

So I suspect my 'pets' who have captured my heart are going to be here for a long time.

So sorry for your loss, but they do have a way of waddling right into our hearts,

I am not saying your adults are bad but sometimes you need to a different adult to the mix in order to get more vigor to the babies. It is only a suggestion and don't take it personal.
