Baby duckling toys??

we let our ducks have toys meant for small parrots. anything shiny or something that makes a jingling noise makes them happy. I rarely ever *see* them play with it but often hear them tossing it around.

FYI this thread is almost 3 years old.

Those are some great ideas! I love the feather duster idea. Our newest ducklings seemed to like to cuddle under things when they had the option.

And stirkle, to relieve your concern, I believe we did have a lamp on the ducklings when I made that post. I was just inquiring as to things to put inside the cage with them to help keep them happy/occupied.

it was suggested to me to give them a cabbage leaf, they can nibble on it and play with it, also they like a little plush bath, seem to get a real kick out of pushing it around...

Oh! I forgot one of Uno's favorite things. A clump of grass! I was weeding the garden while she was in the brooder and had chunk of sod. I put it in with her to see what she would do. She nibbled the grass, poked at the sides looking for bugs no doubt and then fell asleep on top of it

This youtube video should resolve this thread.

I find that "kill toys" for any animals are fun for them. "Kill toys" are things that squeek or make noises or have textures of sorts so that playing becomes stimulating to more then just the visual sense. It appeals to touch and sounds as well.

I occupied my ducklings with a small dabbling dish filled with greens. Chopped yard grass, chopped cabbage (no stems), etc. Nappa cabbage was especially a favorite when they were babies! They would spends hours each day dabbling in that bowl. Start with a very fine chop. After a while you'll know what size to chop it to-- they won't the pieces that are too big for them or the pieces that have too much stalk for them.

They'll need a source of grit if you offer greens, though.

Shallow saucer at first. Now they have a 13x9 baking dish filled greens each night when I put them to bed in their sleeping quarters.

I didn't have problems with water spillage because I brooded them in the bathtub. The spilled water went down the drain.

Hi all! This may seem like a really silly question, but as they are inside the house now and just in a crate w/shavings, water, food and each other, there's not much to occupy our two new little ducklings. We're enjoying getting to know them, but since I can't supervise the kids w/them all the time the ducklings are spending a great deal of time by themselves
where the kids can't get into them.

Has anyone found anything baby ducks like to play with? Do ducks get bored?

Thanks!

NiftyChick
I think they can get bored for sure. We have 11, 6 three month old Pekins and 5 about a month old Blue Swedish ducklings. The Pekins are free roam most of the day and forage to their hearts content but will be walking around aimlessly definitely looking bored and will start looking for me and quacking if they can't find me. The Sweeds are still inside and we put them in a fenced area in the living room and they'll walk around in a group looking for something to do and if they can't find anything sufficient will lay back down.
