Hi
I am hoping someone may be able to pass on any information regarding the best course of action for a baby duckling.
A lady brought a baby duckling she found on it's own and left it in reception at my work. It was found with no parents around. We believe it is a wood duck. I tried to contact local wildlife group and vet however they advised we could release it where it was found or take home to care for it. Working at a dog friendly park and with no ducks around and with no contact at the end of day, I took the little guy home and he is setup with heatlamp, food, and water (he is eating and drinking well) and blankets. He slept well last night and seems very cozy but I am not able to keep a duck. What would you recommend the best chance is for the little guy? There is a local property im another suburb with wild ducks and chicks- should I try to introduce the duckling to this brood? Or can I look after him to try to release him when he is bigger? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He is the sweetest little thing!
