We are new to chicken life. We bought 8 adult chickens from our neighbors. 2 are three years old.

One has had pasty butt every week for the last three weeks. It has received lots of baths. But why is it still getting pasty butt?

The other 3 year old has sat in the coop for over 5 days. Only comes out if we pick her up. She will eat and drink just a little bits then go back into the coop. She has hung her head low at times. Puffed up feathers and making a little whimper at times.

We also have been getting half the amount of eggs from our 2 year olds. Are any of these things connected? What should we do for the two older chickens? Is it sickness? Brooding? Etc?

Some chickens are messy poopers, but it could also be a sign of something wrong like worms or vent gleet (but that should be a lot more noticeable than just a build up of poop). Photos of the vent and soiled feathers can help diagnose that.

Bird 2 sounds like she's broody. Is she staying on the nest day and night?

It could be a spring moult. Are they looking scraggly?

Let's talk about this hen. Where in the coop is she? Is she sleeping in a nest, or staying up on a roost, or in a corner of the coop somewhere? Does she stay in just one spot or does she move around? If you puck her up and stand her on her feet, will she stand or walk, or just lay back down? Is she setting on any eggs? When you pick her up does she protest vocally, like with a screech or anything like that?
