My Perkins and runners have nests going. Only one chick has survived, even though we have had several hatch. They seem to be hatching prematurely and still have their umbilical cord attached. I hate to keep finding them dead. I have been rescuing them as soon as they hatch but that is not helping. Any suggestions? I have successfully hatched 14 Ballard eggs in an incubator. I would hate to take their eggs but I am starting to think I may have to, any advice is welcome. Thank you.

Given the poor natural results, I would be tempted to move the eggs to the incubator. One or more of the hens may be 'helping' the ducklings hatch prematurely once they start vocalizing.

Welcome and enjoy!
Steve.

Agreed. In my opinion Runners and Pekins make very poor mothers.
