Baby girl is so sick

@PVILLAGO - how is she today? Any luck getting her to drink sugar water as Wyorp Rock suggested? She's been through a lot of stress lately. You can try to offer scrambled egg in her wet mushy feed with Poultry Cell or Rooster Booster (TSC) if you have some for some additional vitamins. After administering to her wounds and working on her eye, you can rest her in a dog crate, keeping her warm and dry for observation with food and water in reach.

Actually she seemed better Thursday. Standing and eating. The past 2 days can't stand. Barely eating or drinking. Ive been giving her electrolytes and vitamin water by syringe. I look at her and just can't believe she's still with me. Not because she looks bad but just because she seems exhausted and kind of lifeless even though she responds to us and looks around when we're talking to her. I feel nothing broken. She seems exhausted. I gave her about 2cc of water after Church. She might be pecking at her food as she had some on her beek. However she falls asleep in her food so I moved it a bit away. I know she moves as she was facing a different way when I got home. Im just torn up over this. Is 4days to short to see her back to her old self

I think it's going to take time given what she's been through. Not to mention the shock. Injuries like that can take some time to heal. How is her eye? Have you been able to clean it and apply non pain relief ointment or Terremycin in her eye?
It's good she is reacting to your voice. Her will to live is strong. With the changes you made to your run, is she able to see the others without interaction (so they don't peck on her) or is she in the house with you?

Sadly my sweet Dorothy passed. I am crushed. The girls have a red schoolhouse in their yard I put there for them to hide since I have no trees for shelter. They'd sleep in there during the day or walk in and out of it. We are going to bury her beside the little house and put a white picket fence around her. Im just devastated at my inability to save her. I was there constantly talking to her. Bathing her feeding her. It wasn't enough.. I loved her so much. All of them really but she needed me and I couldn't deliver.

Thank you so much for the advice,care and concern. It was comforting to me and meant the world to me your caring nature for these fluffy babies. I was holding my breath and hoped she could pull through. She tried for 4days but I knew she was leaving me today. I just wasn't ready

I am so sorry you lost your sweet girl. It is never easy watching a chicken deteriorate, doing all we can to help them only to watch them perish in the end. It's not that you couldn't "deliver", the circumstances were just out of your control. You did the best you could and I'm sure she felt your love. We are never ready to face a loss and this is a difficult time. She is no longer suffering and you have others to love. Spend more time with them; it may bring you comfort. Plant some pretty flowers by the picket fence. Hugs.

I'm so sorry about your sweet baby. Please don't beat yourself up. Let yourself mourn but don't blame yourself. No matter how hard we try, we can't always get it right. Or even if we do get it right, that doesn't mean that it's going to work. So many different things factor into recovery, and death is just a fact of life. Now she can fly high and free.

It seems like you really did do everything you possibly could have for your Dorothy. Sending you lots of hugs. I dread the day that I have to say goodbye to any of my girls. They all mean so much to me.

Rather than being hard on yourself and going over what you could or should have done differently to save this one, use this as a lesson for next time. Don't drag yourself down, just be prepared! Be sad but also be gentle with yourself. Honestly, when I saw the first post and the picture of her, I thought "no way she survived". Just the fact that you were able to get her up and moving even a little bit is amazing! You did such a great job, be proud of youself for what you were able to do for her

People that don’t have chickens really underestimate how intelligent, personable, and resilient they are. How they cement their individual selves into our lives and our hearts.. a loss is hard. The hardest part about keeping poultry is their mortality, it’s inevitable and far too common for emotional health. Be kind to yourself, you tried and did so much I don’t think I could’ve done better, that’s for sure. She was in such poor shape, it’s amazing she lasted at all and that was only due to your care. While we all would prefer she healed and prevailed, the reality is she was in such pain and she no longer has to endure that. Love yourself and the rest of your birds.

I'm sorry to hear about Dorothy.

You did what you could for her.
Sometimes no matter what we try, they just are not able to overcome what is ailing them. Know that you were there to provide her comfort and she felt your love, that's the most important things in life.
