Baby goats and the runs.....I read.....

Sorry had a busy night on the ambulance last night and didn't get a chance to reply. Yes 4 months is ridiculously young to breed a goat. For dairy goats we go with over 80lbs, and a lot of folks wait until they are almost two. It's better to go by weight ( although in a good growing doe that's usually around the 9mo mark) that way you know she is big enough to breed. If you don't have scales, you can weigh them with a string, ruler, and some math.
Baycox is ordered from a place in Australia believe it or not lol. Horse prerace is the site I think. Toltrazuril is the generic name. What you got is fine though. :)
The only thing with safegaurd is that it's not effective in some parts of the country. Before you give her anything, you might get a fecal done. She might not need any meds at all.

Yes I bought the antibiotic to have on hand.
My feed store doesn't have much for goats although I'll ask tomorrow and id rather be safe than sorry.
As you can see I am a very nervous new mom.
I just walked them, they loved it, now they're sun bathing.
We built a fountain for water its pretty cool. I'll put a pic.

I'm also going to put lime around because another old timer said its very helpful and my father in law does it too.
Kills bacteria and flies.

I do want to worm them twice a year. I read that is a good standard. They're still a bit young, I heard 3-4 weeks and then 6 months later.
I worked in a hospital er fr years so I tend to be the vet arounf here.
I may, later do an herbal dewormer. I like her blog shes pretty sweet. http://www.tosingwithgoats.com/2012/05/homemade-herbal-goat-dewormer.html

Her runs have stopped btw thank god. I hope she stays dry.

I just ordered dithemox powder better safe than sorry, and dewormer safeguard. And 2 more nipples just in case. Coccidiosis must be running wild because jeffers is out of some meds for it.
I think the pygmy and miniature goats need 5 feedings a day.
Let me ask you, at what age can I get my girls pregnant? I read 4 months.....but have no clue if that's ok. I figure you'd know.
50 kids and your lazy? Nahhhhh! I don't think so.

Goats CAN get pregnant at four months. I had one get pregnant at three months. Not a good idea. The pregnant three month old kid was an accident. This was one situation I did not find out about until it was far too late. About the earliest dairies breed their doelings is seven months and then only if they are well grown. If they are fed well they will continue to grow after kidding. Eighty pounds is a good breeding weight.
