Baby goats with swollen abdomen..Help!

I'm just going to toss in something else here.... chicken food isn't good for goats at all. I know you're not feeding it to them as their sole source of grain, but you did mention they were getting too much. That said, though, I've had my goats break into the chicken feed and go to town and only end up with scours however, I've read of people having their goats eat a handful, get bloated and die. Keeping the baking soda out is a great idea if they are consuming too much of stuff that's not the best for them.

elevan is exactly correct - you'll find as many ways to feed/treat goats as there are people who own them. Do what works for you.

Good luck and let us know how she's doing!

I was hoping I could get some advice as well from experienced goat owners. I have 2 thirteen week old Pygmy who I feed a small amount of sweet feed, free feed Alicia Bermuda hay (they will be wethers eventually) and minerals and baking soda are out all the time. Sometimes they get a couple of goat treats and raisins but sparingly. What worries me is their bellies get so “bloated” after eating. They act fine, eating, drinking running playing...but they look distended a bit. I’m scared of bloat is what it comes down to and being new I was wondering if it’s normal for them to sometimes have some fatness to them?
