Baby goats with swollen abdomen..Help!

They sound normal to me.

They need to have a CD&T vaccination (Your Vet should have told you that already)
Lots of places sell it:

Bar Vac CD-T

(Boehringer Ingelheim) For the immunization of healthy sheep, goats and cattle against enterotoxemia caused by the toxins of Clost. perfringens types C & D (overeating disease) and tetanus. Dosage is 2 ml for sheep, goats and 5 ml for cattle injected SQ or IM. Repeat in 21-28 days, booster annually.

The vet gave them their CD&T shot when she saw them last Wednesday. The stock sweet feed is also mixed 50/50 with Noble goat feed pellets. It isn't straight sweet feed. The vet did reccomend that to us. Thanks,

I don't know why a vet would recommend that you mix the feed like that...I wouldn't. I feed straight Noble Goat pellets to non milking does.

I think it was more that she didn't want me feeding the sweet feed. Mixing it will just use up what we had. I also drastically cut he portion to 1/2 scoop once a day for the 3 small goats. We went with the sweet feed since that is what the "breeders" had weaned them on. The goats are a little thin, so maybe once we get a healthier weight we can totally cut out the sweet feed. Or is it so bad, we shouldn't feed it at all?

I feed one scoop of sweet feed and one scoop of alfafa pellets in a 10 scoop bucket with medicated goat pellets for young goats. Also, one pointer, if your goat seems off, find out what the problem is and do something N O W! Later may be too late. Just a general rule. Worms can kill a goat quite quickly. Good luck and enjoy the kids!

You'll find as many ways of feeding goats and caring for them as you do people who have them...you have to wade through it all and figure out what works best for you.

All Stock is not horrible - it just shouldn't be used as a sole source of feed for long periods of time. Mixing it until what you have is gone isn't a problem.

LOL

I saw that when I read the thread today.

I should know better than to try and post at 4 AM!!

Learn to give all those shots and medications yourself, and you will save a fortune

Hi I had a couple of baby goats last year. I was giving some grain and tthe doe got so sick she just laid down and wouldn't respond. I called the vet he asked about the grain if I was giving them that. I said yes. He said they usually die because of that but did say to try and give them some yourgert with something it would help them maybe save them. I put some yourgert in a baby bottle with a big hole and just forced some into her. She did great and is well still today! I am not sure if I added another ingrediant or not maybe someone here might know Foodisgold

This I know about. If it is bloat everything everyone said is true. You can also massage their belly. It is very tiring but it works. We had a goat a couple of months ago that had it. We massaged her belly for about 2 hours. And before that when we were brand new to goats our 3 month billy got it.(I fed him to many raisins

) Knew nothing about baking soda. We massaged for 3 1/2 hours between 3 of us. I hope it all works out. Know I always leave bakingsoda out for them.
