Wooow so beautiful! Any updated pics? Hoping it didn’t turn out to be chicken poxUPDATE
Red Jungle Fowl x Giant Cochin
Age : 21 days (hatched 5th February)
Wing feathers are starting to fill in, these chicks run super fast! Not as docile as the Giant Cochins. Leg feathers are coming in too
Looks like an onset of fowl pox, so started treatment for the chicks
I am loving the look of this crossbreed. I know people have their opinions about hybrids but this is definitely one for the books! You should isolate them and see if you can get a proper breed out of them! They look awesome.UPDATE:
Red Jungle Fowl x Giant Cochin
Age : 8 weeks 2 days (hatched 5th Feb)
Looks like it's 2 males and 2 females.
A pair of reds and another pair black and white. Not sure where the white came from, perhaps it crossed with my white Giant Cochin?
The males seems to have feathered out very well, the females not so. Still looking rather sparse. Size-wise, the males are pretty much equal to young Cochins of the same age but the females are fairly smaller.
But most importantly, the question that we've all been wondering has been answered: YES THEY CAN FLY
View flight video here
As of today, only the male chicks can fly up this tree of mine, the females have yet to attempt this stunt.
We shall wait and see how long this flight ability sticks with them as they mature.
Thanks! Im planning to try that outI am loving the look of this crossbreed. I know people have their opinions about hybrids but this is definitely one for the books! You should isolate them and see if you can get a proper breed out of them! They look awesome.![]()
For about half a second I was wondering what chicken laid marbled eggs with green streaksAloha,
Your Giant Cochin are stunning! I am in love!
I raise Brahma's and have had very similar experiences with our junglefowl though i am not thrilled about it. And not so much with the full adoption of the wild hen like you have. Ours have never gotten THAT friendly, maybe drop a few eggs and bring their feathered footed kids to get their meals and often leave them with me when they start to lay again. I have adopted plenty with feathered legs or claimed them and took responsibility lol. My 1/2 wilds as I call them never settle but do make fabulous broody hens. I often have to search for their eggs and they certainly don't snuggle (unless a boy)
Keep us posted!! This is funView attachment 2599669View attachment 2599670View attachment 2599677View attachment 2599679View attachment 2599683
