Our baby pea is 5 weeks we are going to be moving her into bigger pen.... She is only one that survived but I'm wondering how long to keep her with heat lamp?
Can she go out on the ground or will she need to wait?
At 5 weeks your peachick should be okay outside in the daytime without a heat lamp depending on how cold it is outside. The pen needs an area for the peachick to get under when it rains because that can easily make them cold. Sometimes for really young peachicks I would turn their heat lamp on when it rains. At night I always turn on their light. My peachicks are around 4 months old right now and they don't really need their light at night, but I like being able to look out the window and see them and also the light attracts lots of bugs that they like to eat which is good for little growing birdies. If it is a cold night they can easily sleep next to the light.
I still have my peachicks off of the ground but it is kind of optional if you want to put your peachick on the ground now or not. While mine are in a pen that is off of the ground, I let mine out everyday to walk around supervised for an hour.
Monitor the peachick to make sure it is not shivering without a light.
