Hi. All
Just a question, I have started hatching pheasants recently and to date I have hatched over 50, but the problem is that over 20 died starting from 3 days old to 5 days old. They are fed on chick crumbs and appear normal jumping around together in the brooder, then they slump down and eventually die. I am also giving vitamin suppliments in their water. Any suggestions
Regards
Anthony

Well.. Idk if I could give you the right answer but I was told not to feed pheasant chicks a medicated chick starter as that can kill the chicks... So maybe a non medicated chick starter ?

Also make sure they are drinking! When I had baby pheasants, they had a hard time learning where the water was and when to drink. I ended up getting a baby chicken that I put in there to teach them.

Are you feeding them a gamebird starter? It is a higher protein than regular chick starter and they need this.

What is you brooder temp?
How close to the heat is their water?
Are they getting a draft?
Is there fresh air?
I don't believe in medicated feed.If fed constantly they can be over medicated.Only medicate when needed. And the easiest way to medicate them is to inject themeds into a mealworm and feed it to them that way.
