Baby Praying Mantis

They are TINY when they're babies and oh so cute.

I guess I should look for mine. I have an egg case in the Japanese Maple and an egg case in the garden. I relocated them from the orthodontists shrubs since there was 6 of them there. babies will eat each other of there's nothing else near when they get hungry...

I've always welcomed praying mantis' in the yard and garden. They get to know me and never make a move while I deadhead and such. I feel like we're buddies by the time the summer ends, since I know their territories and look for them each day.

We didn't have any at the new house, but I had black widows in the garden last year. Much scarier, but they responded as peaceably as my mantis' always did. They backed off and let me do my garden thing. Never an aggressive move from them. But I'd still rather have a mantis than a widow!!

a few years back, our Christmas tree had an egg sack - we didn't know it until they hatched.....there were so many in our house, I couldn't sleep because of the "hibbie jibbies"
