Baby Praying Mantis

Too cool! I've seen a large praying mantis once, it was a fascinating creature!

We usually see a few here, they like to build their nests in the coldframe lid...freaked me out the first time I found them.

I love holding one in my hand and watching their every move. They are such cool critters! I've never seen a baby though and haven't seen one in a couple years around here.

I have actually witnessed the "cucoon" hatch out once. When we were 'bout 10 my buddy found the cucoon and we didn't have a clue. He put it in a j lidless jar on his dresser in his bedroom. When it hatched out i would venture to say 50-75 o' wondefull little critters were scattered allll over his bedroom. They were white for a short time before they got their color.

That was just adorable!!! Thanks for the pic! We get those alot around here. We had one that spent many weeks on our porch last summer. He or she hung out in my hanging baskets of flowers and then at nite it would climb to the porch light and feast on all the bugs that were swarming it. I miss him....

We recently bought a mantis egg case on ebay for pest patrole in our greenhouse. It was to take about 3 weeks to hatch. Well about 1 week after we recieved it we woke up to about 150 running loose in the kitchen. The kids loved it! Made for an interesting morning.

Ahh, there are Praying Mantis all over here! I love finding them. They have many different varieties though, and sell quite a few at Reptile Shows! Atleast they did at the one I went to,lol.

I love finding them. Usually they are happy to pose, and I love taking their pictures, especially as they come in so many colors!

Adorable.. Last yr. I was picking grapes and saw about a dozen of the adults on different vines...But I haven't ever seen a baby
