Can someone tell me what’s wrong with my quail? It’s 7 days old and it just started panting with its mouth open and I hear crackeling sound coming from its mouth. What can I do for it? What’s wrong? Just started 2 hours ago. It was eating and drinking earlier.

That crackling sound isn't good. It certainly seems to be having trouble breathing in the video. The chick also looks under developed for 7 days if it's a coturnix quail. It should have pronounced wing feathers by this time and other feathers as well.

What is the brooder setup like? Bedding? Temp at warm end, temp at cool end?
What are you feeding them?
Is it eating a pooping normally?
Are any other chicks showing symptoms?

Oh and its bedding is just paper towels. So no dust.

It’s a bobwhite quail. This is the only quail that hatched out of 5 eggs. So it’s all alone. We had to help break it out of its shell. It was eating, drinking, and pooping normally early today and since it’s been alive. I went to check on it 2 hours ago and saw it was doing this. Still chirping a little and moving and just popped. Which is good. Its brooder is 93degrees on one side and 86 on the other. I’m feeding it baby game bird feed from the tractor supply that’s high in protein.i thought it was hot so took it outside for a few mins but it’s still doing it. I did feed it mush food for the first 3 days because it wasn’t eating much. I hope it’s not clogging something. Now it’s eating the dry food like I said. But I did crush it up just a bit. Some people said that’s good some say it’s bad. I don’t no. I did it with my other quails and didn’t have a problem. Do you think it’s choking? Or sick?

I'm suspecting failure to thrive since you mentioned that it had to be helped out of the shell. Chicks that have trouble hatching usually have trouble for reasons.

I'll tag @007Sean here in case he has any insight since he has a lot more experience than I do on diseases, but I suspect this one just may have something wrong internally.

Yeah unfortunately it just passed away about 30 mins ago 😩 I usually don’t help them hatch but this one was making a clear effort to get out but just wasn’t strong enough so I thought it may have a chance. It was doing so good until today😢 definitely devastating. Thanks for the help though. I really tried everything but had no luck.
