My mother located an abandoned baby quail in the afternoon and has passed the responsibility of keeping him alive onto me. I have raised and released several song birds but quails are or of my comfort zone. The ultimate goal is to track down a wildlife rehabilitation centre close by to get him proper care but in the mean time I'm trying to keep the little guy alive.

He hasn't made any attempt to eat on his own since I've put him in his new brooder. I've followed advice from this page and lined the box with paper towel and he has a small stuffed animal for comfort. I have a space heater and he's in the bathroom, the temp is approx 35 degrees in there. I don't have a heating lamp so I just used what I had.

I have ground up some wild bird feed finely and he has some mashed hard boiled egg as well. Right now and for the past several hours all he seems to do is sleep.

I'm afraid I know just enough about quail to be dangerous, so I'm going to move this thread to the Quail section for you and while we wait for someone with more experience and knowledge to advise you, here are some articles on quail raising etc, that you can check out:

Best of luck with the little one!
