So, I found a baby quail abandoned in my window well yesterday. I brought her inside and set her up in a plastic clothes bin with water and Chick Starter Grow, she knew to drink the water and peck around at the food, but ultimately did not care for it and didn't eat anything last night though she did drink. Her poo started out mostly white with black in it, then went completely white this morning.

I gave her some more seeds and a cherry with a cherry maggot in it, I figured since she was living in my yard, the only thing in my yard for her and her family to eat would have been the cherries. She went right for it and ate it all up! She enjoyed it a lot. She's still doing fine, she's very active. But six hours later her poo is now completely black. Is this good or bad or what?

What can I feed her if she won't take the Chick Starter Grow?

Welcome to BYC!:welcome From what I've read, I think that this is normal, there poo can become all different colors which can be normal. Hopefully your little baby quail continues to be happy and perky!! Post pics if you can, I just love quail!!:love

What color were the cherries?

Regardless, chick poop can come in a lot of different colors while their guts are developing. Don't worry unless it starts acting strangely, too (droopy, puffed up, etc.).

Cooked eggs and insects are a good source of proteins for a baby, especially if you don't mind scrounging in the garden, but be sure to give them a little sand or dirt to help them digest it. I hope your chick does okay!
