Hi all, looking for some possible experience regarding a quail with these symptoms. My eldest chick Chip suddenly lost all sense of balance this evening, an hour before I noticed this he was runnng around with all the other chicks fighting over some chopped up pieces of worm. As I put them to bed I noticed he hadn’t gone under the heat pad like everyone else and was instead sat by the water shaking erratically.
I picked him up and he was gasping, head swaying side to side, and he was using his wings to prop him up from the floor, couldn’t lift his legs up at all. I panicked at how sudden this was and took him to the emergency out of hours vets, and the vet said he has no idea what’s wrong, just that the symptoms is something he’d associate with septicaemia... we checked him over for any injuries but he’s clean, so don’t know how he’d get such a condition, but he’s now taking medication.
He seems to have perked up a lot better than earlier, no longer gasping, his head up and alert, but he still can’t stand and has his wings out to use to balance himself...
I’m unsure if he’ll make it but fingers are crossed. Any ideas on what on earth could have happened to him or what could cause possible septicaemia?
I’ve put him back into the incubator for tonight (which is housing a new duckling so please ignore him) but you can see how he’s sitting weird with his wings still spread
