On the weekend my wife and I were gone to town (about 30-40 mins from home) to do some shopping and our youngest daughter stayed home. She took our terrier out for a walk and the dog started barking at something. Our daughter noticed 3 raccoons on our side deck. She put the dog in the house right away and went to check on the coop all while FaceTiming her mother.
3 on the side deck and she found a 4th on the back deck.
I’m confident in my coops predator proofness but none the less was very vigilant all weekend. They have since moved on further down the road in my town as family and friends have reported. But I know or feel they will be back at some point as they are only babies.

Uh oh. Raccoons are such a nuisance but they are so cute.
I’m also giggling at the face in the first screenshot 🤣 she’s very surprised lol
that's my wife's "omg they are adorable" face. im trying to explain how destructive and deadly they are and can be to chickens.

meanwhile im trying to speed up the shopping process to rush home lol

needless to say they were no where to be seen once we got home.

but i was proud that our daughter was able to think clearly enough to put the dog away in the house and run to check on the chickens because she said she didn't see a mother and thought she may have been around the coop.

I’m in the same boat as your wife haha. I think they are SO cute but I also know how much of a threat they are to chickens so I try to remember that too 😅
Yes for sure! Good job to your daughter for making sure all the animals stayed safe 👏🏼

The babies are pretty dumb, they should go into a cage trap pretty easily ... A piece of hotdog or chicken bone ... May end up with more than one in there! 😀
They have moved on down the way, but my brother is getting a live trap for us and if we hear of them moving back towards us, ill set it up and relocate them.
Thanks for the reply

Only trap them if you will then shoot! Raccoons of any age cease to be 'cute' after you've had dead and dying chickens because of them. Also, many wildlife rescue groups won't take them, because of disease concerns.
Do find out what your local laws are before trapping! Also, even if you can relocate, moving youngsters to unfamiliar territory will get them killed anyway.
