We had 2 baby Robins fall out of their nest during a thunderstorm. One was dead and one was alive. I looked online and they said if it was a "nestling", which I guess means little/not able to fly. The site told me the best thing to do was to take a plastic container with holes drilled for drainage, and paper towels for the soft part and attach this makeshift nest as close to the original nest as possible. Then the mother would continue to feed it. I did all of this. Which meant climbling to the top of highest ladder with a drill and a baby bird sitting in this makeshift nest. Well I looked this morning and it was dead. I am trying to figure out what I might have done wrong. It has been chilly here. Maybe it died because the mother couldn't sit on two nests to keep babies warm? Anyone know? Should I have brought it inside? Oh, I feel so bad!: Just want to know so that if it happens again I do the right thing.
Thanks,
Carol
