Baby Salmon Faverolles have arrived!! NEW PICS ADDED 08/02/09

My 8 Salmon Faverolles chicks arrived at 7am this morning !!

Below is a very bad cell phone picture.... more & better pics to come...

The wire & wood partition had to be added because one of the chicks was very intent on pecking the eyes out of the other chicks. I used wire instead of cardboard because he was screaming his head off when he couldn't see the others.

Now I need a nap

The former eye-pecker is in the center, with the black spot on head & back (he is a sweetheart now)

But it is a relief when it is over.
I had planned on more pictures by now...but what I didn't plan on was one of the chicks trying to peck the others blind.

So planning & constructing a dividing partition took up a lot of photo op time. Does anyone know how long I should keep him separated?

Hmmm, I'm not too sure myself. I also have a few chickies who peck at others around the face and eyes... but the chicks always just walk away and the naughty chick doesn't pursue it further, so its never been a problem.
Your little one just won't let it be, chases the other chicks to keep pecking? What a little rotter! Have you tried letting him back in with the others yet? Maybe now that they're all calmed down after their stressful shipping trip he'll give the pecking a rest. Maybe that's his stress outlet... "I'm not happy, so everyone gets pecked!"
Chicks are such evil little boogers, aren't they? (And I mean that in the most affectionate way. I love wee ones!

Aww! I just love Salmon favs. I only have 2, a 2 year old LF, Sammy, and a 2 month old banty, Mini Me. They are so cute with the fluffy cheeks! Here's mini me...

Can't wait to see more pics of your little one's! Hope "pecky" is behaving!

I have been trying him with the others every couple of hours. He'll stretch, preen, and then when another chick gets near...POW! Then he starts chasing after the others.
On the plus side, he and I have bonded. Whenever I reach my hand into his side of the brooder box, he'll just jump into my hand (even if my intentions where not to pick him up).
I will keep working with him...if I can't put him back with others at least he will make a good guard-chicken

What is funny is that my chicken-hating mother has been carrying him around...she wants to take him home with her because she feels we are rejecting him. I am like, "But you are the one who didn't want to live next door to a bunch of nasty chickens. Remember?" I had to explain that he was fine and I wasn't dishing out cruel and unusual punishment...but then again she hasn't seen him at his worst behavior, she just sees the cute, fluffy, in a corner by himself-side.

That's how he works his chickie wiles. Looks up at you with those big dark eyes... then, when you least suspect it... he's an evil one for sure. Any new piccies of the dangerous offender and his victims?

No pics yet. Its been FRANTIC. Have you noticed that life seems to throw everything at you at the most inopportune moments? Last week was quiet, peaceful, borderline boring...this week I can't get everything done. ~sigh~
Pics this weekend, promise! Or as my grandmother says, "If the Lord is willing & the creek don't rise."

The little picker remains in Pecker Prison. I put him in with the others this morning, and he went right straight back to his bad behavior...and straight back to prison.

The others occasionally peck at each other, and then move on...he won't stop until he has the other chick screaming...wait...he kinda reminds me of my childhood with my older brother...I think he just got named
