What a bad chickie!! I can't believe he makes the other chicks scream! Awwww! Have you tried posting him in the behavior section? There's got to be SOME one who's dealt with this sort of thing before.

Its got to be frustrating! I'd be going nuts if there was a bad chickie like that!
I wonder if dimming the brooder light would make him ease off? Although from your pic it looks like you've got a red light in there, and that's supposed to be good in preventing that sort of behavior. It looks like they've got plenty of space... I wish I could help more! From what I've read, picking or cannibalism can be caused by too much fiber and not enough protein, too bright of lights, boredom, crowding, feed and water stations too close together, heat without adequate ventilation. Apparently is usually just starts with one perpetrator, who teaches the other ones the bad habit. The advice is to remove the picker, so that's good. Apparently there's also an anti-pick solution you can smear on the other birds. The thing is, is you've only got 8 chicks! Not exactly a high volume, high stress situation. I'm stumped!
I sure hope the little guy smartens up soon!!

I have his behavioral issues posted on the baby chick board, I've gotten several helpful suggestions. Plus this morning I received an email from MyPetChicken.com 's customers service that advised...

"Occasionally, a chick may take a while to determine what is food and what is not. Little eyes can sometimes look like a little bug, and little toes can look like little worms! Being temporarily separated may help because they are often very hungry when they arrive, so giving them time to fill up on food rather than peck at eyes can mean they will be less likely to continue pecking at things that aren't food. They will always "try things out" a little, though--it's natural for them--so don't be alarmed unless they are really intent. "

Which makes sense...especially since I couldn't get him to eat or drink yesterday. He has started eating REALLY well this morning and he has figured out the waterer too, so hopefully there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Aww. Sweet pic!
I am torn between loving them as small little balls of fluff and wanting to see what they will look like as adults. Pecky has some black on him already, so I am assuming he is a roo.

Last time I checked they still had two available dates left.

I was a bit concerned about ordering Favs, because of how delicate the chicks are reported to be...but all eight of mine are happy and healthy. Even the little eye-pecker has settled down & has been put back in with the others.

Good luck!

I LOve MyPetChicken they sell as little 3 chicks at once though....... If you if live in a big city (NYC,PittsBurg) you can order 3 with out worry, Half hour away from a big city 5 chicks would be safest and 1 hour or more, minimum safest is 8 chicks I live 1 hour away from Atlantic city, NYC and PittsBurg So Yea... I was getting 10 anyway

Is it Friday yet?? This was a tiring weekend!
This is the first batch of baby chicks I have raised on my own. Before I just let the hens raise them. The hens makes this look EASY...but it's NOT!!
