i was just curious if anyone had any suggestions on keeping 2 roosters together. They grew up together and are about 4 months old. I just separated them from the hens. They have their own small coop but one is not allowing the other to eat or drink and he stays in the box all day. I have provided food and water for him inside the box. They will be rehomed within the next couple months but I was wondering if it would be advisable to separate their coop. I realize they are social creatures and they would still be able to see each other. Any thoughts?

We’ve managed to keep multiple roosters together in a bachelor pad, but it took a bit to get them to coexist and the most dominant one is still unpleasant to the most subordinate one. If each can eat and drink, then I think further need for division depends on whether you think each has enough room in their respective space. They are social creatures and I think are happiest with other chickens, as long as they aren’t being bullied...

He stays in their roost since the other rooster was less then nice to him when they were first put in. I should have done it when they were younger but never seen them squabble. I have feed and water for him inside there and my husband will take him out and try to get him to get used to it since the other rooster doesn’t seem to bother him any more. He runs right back to the box. They cuddle at night so I am reluctant to separate them. We don’t want to invest a large amount of money since they are leaving but do you think a larger run would help? Free range is not doable we have nesting eagles by our place.
