My name is Richard and this last weekend I built another coop. It has been a few years since I kept chickens, actually two moves ago so there was no place for them until now. I have been considering the wheres and hows since last summer. Selected the Beilefelder for its gentle nature and egg laying capabilities. The auto sexing and multiple colored barring are plusses. They arrived in the mail this morning. This was my third mail order in twenty years and it was incredible. Post office called first thing, and the heat pack in shipping was new to me. The chicks were not screaming from stress so it must have been very beneficial.
In the past I have kept buff orpingtons, americanas, silver spangled hamburgs, sebright bantams, and many others.
These are in the 4x8 foot chicken house for the first several weeks. Gives me time to wire the run. My 5th coop build and so thankful I will be able to access the enclosure and the run easily, and still keep it all predator proof. My last coop had quarter inch welded wire and kept mice out of the feed. Not this time. Not sure if it will move around much but it was designed to be shifted. The chickens will get out of the enclosure time regularly. I live in Durham county, NC and there is plenty of roam space.
I was on the yahoo group Chicken Chat Coop for a couple years when I lived in Berkeley, CA. Looking forward to connecting in that way again here on Back Yard Chickens.
