Hi NorCal peeps!

It's been awhile since I've been active here. I first joined when my girls were new - 3 yrs ago, I think. I live in Davis, but my parents recently bought a farm up the Capay Valley in Rumsey, so now I have more options for more chicks!! I am setting up a free range situation at the farm for old hens and cockerels.

My neighbor and I both have nice chickens that aren't laying anymore. It is hard to fully accept that circle of life thing. My girls come when called, know their names, etc. but in all honesty, it is nice to have regular egg production in town and a place to retire the others.

I want to start a guinea fowl flock at the farm as well, to help protect the chicken flock. I have always loved their pretty feathers but couldn't have them due to their constant communication with each other. I remember going to a farm when I was a kid and they were for sale, but that was so long ago. Any info about guinea fowl chicks for sale would be very welcome! I will also post in that section.

I got store hatchery chicks last time and this time I would love to raise some chicks from local flocks. I fell in love with the Pita Pintas, Easter Eggers and Copper Marans. I love all the different colored eggs. I remember there were a couple people raising the Pita Pintas - ronott (?) and Pet Rock, I think. Do I need to go to the buy/sell/trade section to find chicks?

Thanks in advance - it is exciting to be back in the chicken business again!

Sincerely.
Colleen (aka QueenBubbles)
