I am please to join such a wonderful community of chicken (and others) lovers! I grew up on a farm and have fought to even have bantams in cities calling them "exotic pets" and continue my fight in the mountains where we lost every one of them to the coyotes and fox! Have a brand new flock of two week old Speckled Sussex and am WAY to excited about the 12 new runner duck eggs that are patiently waiting for my incubator to dry. I have never hatched from an incubator before and thanks to this wonderful forum... I feel confident that I, and my Janoel12 will have fun learning and hopefully adding to my little farm! Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for people to learn and better love our animals!

Welcome to BYC and back to poultry!

Speckled Sussex are wonderful chickens. We have 3 in our mixed flock and they have so much personality plus they seem to get along with the other birds. And of course they are beautiful.

Have fun with hatch project, hope it goes well for you!

Hi and welcome! I used to be a "lurker" because every time I had a question about chickens, google gave me BYC in the top results! So I decided to join the fun!!! Very glad I did and hope you enjoy it as much as everyone here seems to. I suffer from Speckled Sussex envy...none in my flock but they are ON the list! Super excited for you!

Good luck with your Speckled Sussex, and I hope the duck hatch goes well!

Welcome to BYC. Maybe you could head for the predator section for good ideas of securing your property against them. Sending good hatching vibes your way

Speckled Sussex are soo friendly. You will love them. They usually give a pretty cream/pinkish egg. And ducks? I have hatched them before for the fun of it. Such darling babies. I had seen the runners at a friends house one day. I had to take a double! ha..it was so cute to see how they walked around.
