Spending my summers at the family farm in Kansas back in the 60's and 70's my grandmother taught me a lot about chickens and her 100 or so hens kept me busy. I enjoyed all of it. Many years in the city I lost touch with the birds other than imparting my minimal knowledge to friends who were starting backyard flocks.

My Daughter recently graduated with a degree in Animal Science from Clemson University and wanted to start a flock of her own. We had recently moved to a home in the country and had a good bit of room so it began.

We decided on a mixed flock and have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Lavander Ameraucana, 2 white Silkies, 2 Plymouth rocks and 2 Black Copper Morans on their way.

I discovered Back Yard in searching for information and have learned and been reminded of the many things I had forgotten here and at other sites. As a hobby woodworker I have almost completed the coop and run. I'll try and post photos and the construction plans I created here once it is done and I can get my act together.

It has been fun so far and I am looking forward to the chicken sounds I remember so fondly from my youth.

Thanks everyone for the fun topics, information and future entertainment here at the site.

Welcome aboard! :frow
