They normally get from a hatchery that does. But. But don't expect show quality. Most hatchery chicks from my experience are bred up for productive layers and shorter lived hens. They seem to burn out sooner than those bred to be true to old style chickens.

Welcome! It depends on the feed store. I go to a family owned store a few towns over because they have good quality chicks. Plus there is a schedule nearly all year long of different breeds and when they will be arriving so you can usually get what you want.

My local Tractor Supply is not the best source.
