Backyard Brahmas!!

These are all hatchery birds from Cackle that I got May 2013. They were very light chicks almost completely yellow. Sorry I don't have any baby pics but they were very similar to your "odd ball" It was wet today so the hens are a bit dirty.
Most likely these looked like mine as chicks. I guess we'll find out in a few months

Those are very pretty! Yours are what I expected mine to look like when I got my first batch. I got mine from mcmurray and one has a foot with her toes fused together and another has almost no feathering on her legs and is Noticeably smaller than the other two, and all three have more black speckled all over instead of being more crisp like yours. I love them regardless, theyre just so friendly and I think theyre lovely even if they arent what I was expecting! I think hatcheries should be more honest about what your really getting though. How well do yours lay? Mine will be a year old next month and Ive yet to see an egg. Im hoping the delay is just because its been winter.

I have a couple from may 2012 that average 5 days in a row then a day off. The girls from may 2013 are a little slower to start with the short days and frigid temps but just best guess they are laying about every other day with a some that aren't laying yet. Egg size averages medium by my untrained eye (i don't have a scale) just comparing to store medium.

I had a few I ordered from ideal and I was disappointed with the amount of gray/black they had as well, a dog got most of that flock though. The only company I've seen with pics of their actual birds is meyer but I see they cleaned up this years catalog compared to last years, must've affected sales. Cackle has videos of their breeder flocks that gives a pretty good idea of what to expect. I think the best way to get a good idea of what to expect is to talk to people who have ordered from the hatchery you are thinking about.

5 a week isnt bad at all! I cant wait to see some eggs from them!

I almost ordered from meyer hatchery this year but ended up getting some from the farm store instead. I couldnt resist! I got all but 2 of the breeds I was wanting. I agree with you about finding people who ordered from hatcheries to find out what to expect! I dont show or sell birds so Im not too concerned with any being "to standard" but Ill do my homework better in the future!
