Backyard Brahmas!!

Honestly not sure since they are from my local feed store that uses 3 of the large hatcheries. They are pretty, they have filled out niceley where they are hollow in the pics since they were still very young there. I suggest a lot of good food mine tried their best to eat me out of house and coop as they packed on their size.

2 week old,,,,
i was told these are Buff when do they turn "Buff" ?

They don't seem like Buffs to me. Maybe Darks? But even those have chipmunk stripes, not that dark all over. They do have the proper feathers on the outer leg/toe like a Brahma. I've not seen a Buff Brahma chick that super dark. Let me see if I can find a picture of my own Buff Brahma as a chick for you. It's been over 9 years (she's still with me) but let me look.

Here is my Buff as a chick. They do lighten up as they feather in so maybe yours are just extra dark. Now that I look at yours again, I see some buff peeking through the fluff so just wait a little bit, @oldfartfarmer

thank you,
I've got the 6 chicks in a big trunk in the house with a heat lamp,

where do i put the chick grit?
I've read to put in a clod of grass?
and
a dirt bath,--regular garden dirt?

I've 2 1-week old Jersey giants,
and
4 2-week olds 2 buffs and 2 Easter eggers

never raised chicks before

If they are ONLY eating their crumble, they don't need grit yet, only if they get anything else. I don't put in grass, only a dishpan full of yard dirt for them to get used to and start building immunity to coccidiosis and play in and they'll also dustbathe in it.

If your feeding them anything that's not chick food they need grit and a little dust bath fine, I find that my hen will use garden dirt mixed with a bit of wood ash but for babies, I think just dirt is fine

ok so i called the hardware store, they have been given the "mech ? merk" ? shot but not the coccidiosis shot,,,

I'm stupid, please teach me----so do i put them on the medicated food?
