Backyard Brahmas!!

LOL.  Thought about naming out little vulture hock kid after one of the vultures in "The Jungle Book"!  Honey isn't sold on the idea.  Names will come eventually, just seeing what their personalities turn out too.  Our Favs are so goofy we ended up naming them after fruit!

How old are your chicks? We have two Gold Laced Brahmas (yes, we lovvvve brahmas) that are three weeks old and we are once again keeping our fingers crossed for girls! It will be great to compare, yours look a lot more feathered out than ours.

Ours were hatched early July I think, would have to double check from home, lol. One of them has a lone little feather in the middle of its back now, so funny! We arent sure on gender yet either, fingers crossed.

Mine also have random

Mine also have random feathers coming in-one has a strip of feathers coming in along one side of the neck but not the other! My Dark Brahmas came in kinda patchy but at least symmetrically-lol. They grow up to be so pretty, I really hope at least one is a girl. Thanks for sharing!

Hey all, my e-mail got hacked but I'm back and wanted to post an updated photo of my DB's-definitely girls! Yeah, I get to keep them!! CarolinaHen, we thought they might be boys along with Chuck but....

Glad you're back! Your girls are beautiful :) Chuck is going to be my model for the hen sweater I'm making, so you will see lots more of her and her silly webbed feet!

Nicole63021, Cute little chicks! What's the age difference of the ones you introduced them to? Were they accepted right away?

Brahmama, Your Darks are beautiful. Will their heads stay light? I'm not too familiar with the darks but I think they're lovely.

Huntress, loved the story about the little chickie snuggled in with top hen!

Thank you! I'm so in love! I think their heads will be light but not as light as they are now.

Love the darks Brahmama, the penciling they have is gorgeous. Vickis, the oldest in the brooder were from June 24, the CCL was from my July hatch (July 6th I believe), and the Brahmas were also hatched in July (about a week-week and a half later I think, would have to look back through to see when exactly they hatched). We kept them separated for the first few days, then introduced them while everyone was outside. There was a little food squabbling the next morning, but that was about it, they were accepted very well and quickly. My newest hatches however will not be introduced to the bigger kids, just too much difference.

Thanks. The reason I asked is because I have three hatchery Brahma chicks hatched mid June and one gorgeous little blue partridge(egg came from a breeder) hatched mid July. Once the little guy(or gal) is out of the brooder, he'll still be alone, but just a hardware cloth divider between him and the bigger three. I'm hoping when they're close to the same size I can bring an older chick in to live with him until all four can be integrated. He's such a sweet thing, and I will worry about him, so that's my plan for now. Any ideas about what age they'll be closer in size? It's amazing what a difference a month makes.

I usually give the newbie a week or so to toughen up and then I add the most docile chick to his pen. Then in another week or so let them all together. I havne't noticed too much pecking order issues until about 10 weeks.
