What is the give away? The late feather development? Her comb is a tad redder and larger than the others but not major? Just curious? What are the odds my Roo is a keeper? My kids are devastated at the thought of rehoming HER\HIM? How long should I wait?
I would also guess cockerel, my reason being his feathers seem to be redder than the others. The girls pretty much stay evenly buff colored, but the boys get deeper shades of buff/red.
My Roos are my favorite. They are more outgoing, friendly, and cuddly than the hens. If my Brahma Roos are like the Cochins, they will stay here as well. 8675309j, don't give up on him!
I am fairly certain we aren't allowed to keep him here in Lynnwood WA. Where do I find this info? I have looked on the city and county web site but can't seem to locate the ordinance. I dont want to piss off my neighbors. We are going to hang on to him until we know for sure. If he starts to beat up my girls he will be gone. He is sweet but definitely not as calm as my gals especially the buff orpington, she is amazing, my youngest had her in the doll stroller walking her around the house. Insane.
If you are in the county rather than the city, there probably isn't an ordinance. I couldn't find one, so I'm keeping my guys and not worrying about it until and unless someone complains.
They say don't count your chickens before they hatch but I guess you shouldn't discount em either. I never thought I would get any chicks from the smelly nest that had the broken egg but she hatched four! I was always told to bleach the incubator between hatches and wash my hands before touching the eggs but a broody hen can hatch chicks in a dirty bacteria filled nest...I don't know how they do it.
Anyway, here's mom and kids!
Brahma momma nirvana!! First dust bath after a long hatch!
