Backyard Brahmas!!

Vicki, if your most aggressive pullet continues to cause problems when you put them all together give her a 'time out'. I keep a lot of different wire cages/wire dog kennels that will hold just a bird or two. I'll put a problem bird in the coop (inside the cage) for a few days so she can see the new birds and everyone else but she can't get at them. Sometimes this helps, sometimes it doesn't. Remember my mean dark hens? Out of the 5 darks I am down to 1 that is allowed in with the main flock...the time out worked with her. The Green Meanie, Blue Devil and two of their sisters are living in a separate pen/coop because they are just too mean to the youngsters and fight with everyone else.

I've contacted a couple breeders in the hope of getting Black Brahma and Gold Partridge Brahma chicks/eggs in spring.

You're welcome for the links. There is sooo much good info on this site...I appreciate everyone who posts their tips, opinions, etc.

Keep us posted on how things work out!

I took some picture this morning after letting the chickens out into their morning run. Here is my first Brahma egg

The hen that laid it has since laid another seven. I had also promised that I would post pictures once I got my new roo. Here is Raj. He is quite a character and beauty to boot. He is a gentle boy, but knows he is the boss. All the girls love him, even the ones who have only been under his wing for a week. For those who might be wondering, he is a gold partridge. There has been some debate on whether my pretty new hen is a buff laced or a palamino ... I would love everyone's input. It is so great to have a rooster for my girls!

Hi everyone, I just joined this thread and wanted to share my buff babies I hatched out of shipped eggs (although most of them are looking pretty dark). I also have a blue laced pullet, splash laced pullet and 2 splash on buff pullets (they are culls from a color project).

I'm super glad I live fairly close to someone whois working with them. I'm hoping to keep a rooster out of the buff chicks and breed to them to see if I can get anymore

who did you get your shipped eggs from?

Huntress, it worked!!! Maggie got to spend two days and one night all by herself. Then I opened the gate between the two runs and she was okay with everyone! Not really friendly, but close enough that I took down the divider in the coop and now I have one very diverse and beautiful flock. I'm really proud of all the girls and boys, and hope I can get my daughter to help with pics soon. Thanks for all your help. It wasn't nearly as tough as I thought it would be(thanks to you).
